Hi Jordan, I’m wondering if there’s a safe amount of caffeine in one sitting vs one day. I know the FDA recommends no more than 400mg per day. I’ve also heard 6mg per kg. I’m just wondering if there is a safe amount per sitting? Wondering whether to get Peri-RX with caffeine or add caffeine to the non-caffeinated version and just add informed sport caffeine pills.
thanks for your time.
Bekegren,
The “performance-enhancing” dose for caffeine during resistance training or conditioning-based efforts is somewhere between 3 to 6 mg/kg bodyweight about 30-60 min prior to the event. Dosing should be tailored to the individual based on their preferences, habitual caffeine intake, and so on.
As far as safety goes, the LD50, that is, the dose of caffeine that results in death in 50% of test animals, for caffeine is ~ 150 + mg/kg at one setting, though case reports of lethal toxicity have been reported as low as ~ 50 mg/kg.
