Caffeine "prescription"

I have been a caffeine user ever since I graduated from college 6 years ago and got a boring job (like most people I suspect). I spend about 8.5 hours in bed per night, but that is typically interrupted by a 2 year old. I work an 8-5 desk job with almost no physical activity during working hours. I started with coffee as needed, but recently I found my wakefulness to be erratic when consuming ad lib. To try to get a better handle on the situation, I switched to caffeine anhydrous tablets and have begun measuring and timing my doses.

I find that 300mg shortly after waking is enough to give me the alertness I desire, and I usually require another 100-200mg in the early afternoon if I really want to finish strong (this second dose also serves as my pre-workout on training days). I have tried lower doses and they just don’t cut it.

Is there anything dangerous about my current daily amounts?

Is there an upper limit of safe caffeine consumption?

As long as you don’t have blood pressure issues, this is within the safe range of intake.

The “toxic” range is probably somewhere over the 20 mg/kg range, though people can certainly experience some adverse effects at lower doses.
