Can someone define overload?

I’ve been hanging out in the forums for a little while now, and there’s one thing I haven’t been sure of: what exactly is an overload movement?

An overload movement is simply a variation that allows you to lift more weight than the competition exercise. The most common ones you’ll see are things like slingshot bench, rack pulls, any reduced ROM movement, or movement with resistance bands or chains.

Got it. So a floor press would be considered an overload movement then?

Yes, it would.

I’m not so sure actually. If we agree that an overload allows you to lift more through a partial range of motion of a compound lift, floor presses might not be a great choice, because you aren’t able to use leg drive and transfer force that way, potentially lowering the weight you could otherwise bench on a flat bench. Partial pin bench may be a good example of a bench overload if loaded correctly.

May not be a great choice but they recommend floor press and a viable bench overload in places so…

Pretty sure a weight release bench (eccentric) would be a example of overload.

I understand rack pulls should be, but they have us doing them beltless that takes away a lot of the advantage. Am I doing something wrong?
