collagen supplements, any uses?

My understanding is that there’s nothing special about any protein source except its amino acid profile (you want decent levels of the EAA & BCAA), because digestion is going to break down all proteins anyway into their component AAs and random small peptides.

For instance, if a skin care specialist or physical therapist says “Take a collagen powder” but you’re already getting plenty of quality protein, it’s going to make no difference (except maybe to your total protein number).

Correct? - If not, then what would be the uses of a collagen supplement powder?

I go into some detail about collagen protein and this issue in the November 2019 issue of the BMR and it’s associated podcast.

I don’t think the data supports a unique benefit to collagen protein and its bioavailability make any purported benefit suspect.

Collagen is one of the most popular and discussed nutritional supplements. The use of this supplement is designed to help improve several parts of the body at once. But it is important to remember that the improvements that will appear will be caused by the supplement. If you give it up, the positive effects will disappear over time.

I took collagen capsules. I can tell you that it really has an effect. But it’s important to take extra care of your skin to get an amazing effect.

I totally agree. Collagen is an excellent supplement to basic skin care. It’s great for some skin problems. It’s important to realise that you can’t get a good effect with a supplement and vitamins only. I have pretty healthy skin thanks to comprehensive care. Apart from vitamins, I also get spa treatments. Dermal filler treatments help me look younger while filling out wrinkles and improving the overall tone of my face. Unfortunately, not every girl knows the importance of beauty treatments and neglects to visit spas or medical clinics.

Hey! Of course it’s good for us. It’s just important to know the amount we need

Sorry for bumping into an old conversation. Collagen supplements are popular in the wellness industry, particularly for their purported benefits for skin, hair, and joint health. While it’s true that digestion breaks down proteins into their constituent amino acids, some evidence suggests that consuming collagen may have unique benefits.
