Studies measuring the results of collagen vs whey supplementation?

Can anyone point me to any studies that compare the difference between collagen and whey supplementation? I’ve found a 2015 German study that tested the use of collagen hydrolysate in sarcopenic men over 70 who underwent resistance training, but this study only compared collagen supplementation against a placebo.

The main reason I’m looking is that my wife got recommended collagen hydrolysate by her trainer, and my gut does not respond well to Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey. I can drink up to a litre of milk in a day with no ill effects. My gut feels a little uneasy with the ON protein in water, but becomes extremely uncomfortable and bloated when I drink it in milk. I’m trying to research to see if collagen is an effective substitute that is easily digestible.

Collagen protein is not a substitute for whey protein. I would try a whey protein isolate to see if your tummy tolerates that better. If that doesn’t work, try an egg or beef protein based supplement if you need one.

Thanks Jordan. Is the main reason collagen isn’t a substitute for whey the amino acid profile? Or are there other factors?

Amino acid profile and bioavailability of the amino acids.

Thank you.
