So I am experiencing what Dr Google has diagnosed as de Quervain’s Tenosynovitis. I have pain in my thumb joint near the wrist primarily, with slight pain in my forearm just below the wrist. The thumb joint however is the biggest problem. The area isn’t tender to the touch but is extremely painful if I bump it against something hard. I frequently have a throbbing pain even while not using the joint.
This started during the period when I was doing all of my GPP work with a barbell. I think the tricep work was the culprit as I would wrap my thumbs under and I would feel the pain increase substantially while performing them (with my thumb in any position by this point). I have since stopped performing the movements in a manner that cause pain.
I know the BBM recommendation is to find an entry point without pain/etc. But honestly, now, lifting has little effect on the pain itself. I don’t really experience an increase in pain while/after lifting. What is most painful is every day things done sort of instinctively - hold a plate, put on a seatbelt, etc.
Its been over a month since I’ve stopped performing the offending lifts but the pain as not really resolved at all.
