Deadlift Shoe Experiences

Much to my dismay the days on my lifting shoes I use for Deadlifts / non-Squat day are numbered. I have been enjoying the original Bearfoot Ursus (SLTG1) slippers as a minimalist, zero drop, and most importantly wide toe box option. I had originally went the chuck taylor route as most do, but my flintstone feet never quite fit.

I am considering grabbing their V2 version, but I was waiting on a color option to come back. In that time I have also been seeing Avancus Power V3 / Notorious Lift Sumo Sole Gen 5 pop up in my feed amongst other newer brands. I am now in the throes of analysis paralysis.

Has anyone had a good / bad experience with either model or have other recommendations they would be willing to share?

No personal experience with them. I’m deadlifting in Sabos these days, whereas many of my clients have other DL-specific shoes, i.e. Notorious, TYRs, and so on. We’ll see if anyone here has more to add.

As a fellow lifter with duck feet (seriously, they’re 9.3” x 4.2”), I do all my lifting in Vivobarefoot Freud shoes which are constructed like a very minimalist leather Chuck Taylor with a very wide last and thin sole.

The similar newer versions like the Addis are arguably even wider and higher volume than the ones I lift in, but I have kept mine going through resoling because I want a little bit of lateral support for heavy lifts. I keep my newer ones to run in along with my Five Fingers for barefoot-type toe mobility.

I also own Sabo Deadlift 1s that I got as a gift - they are grippy and supportive but they are comically narrow on my feet. I’ve looked at Tyrs, Notorious etc but they seem awfully expensive and I can’t try before I buy.

Second edit: looks like your old Ursus are very similar to the Vivos I’m talking about!
