Dependency on equipment

Hey BBM,

Recently you had a post on your fine with mobility work as long as it doesn’t become too time consuming and have a negative influence on someone’s training (ie, reliance on it , etc). How would you feel about that for lifting equipment?

For example, I feel a lot more confident and squat more with my singlet on (it has a single ply on the crotch area, Titan singlet) , just wondering if this is an over reliance. I do know it’s mandatory in powerlifting meets to wear it and plenty of powerlifters wear singlets in the gym when they do their main lifts.

It has been at least 3 years since I squatted with my bare knees, I always feel uncomfortable without knee sleeves.

Can this be an issue in the long run where a lifter has a dependency on their equipment in the long run , or simply just continue with it since it doesn’t take long to put on a singlet and/or knee sleeves?

The Titan singlet has single ply material in there and is legal for use in raw meets? I don’t know that I believe that.

I don’t think there’s much to being “over-reliant” on training gear, but can certainly see how some will get in their own heads about it. I still don’t think it matters much.

This is the singlet I have. I used it in a local meet but it is IPF approved. They have an option on crotch type for single ply. This was the recommended singlet to me from other powerlifters because they call it the “cheater singlet”
