First BBM program - what should I run?

Hi guys,

Been running SSLP for about 3 months now and while I’m still making strength gains, I want to start planning out my next phase of training. It doesn’t feel like I will stall anytime soon, but an LP program can only take you so far and want to plan ahead.

Background:

I was a gifted multi-sport athlete growing up but never found myself able to make progress in the gym after my sports career ended (24 years old now so it had been ~6 years since last competing athletically). Did some bodybuilding splits on and off, never consistently training for more than a couple months at a time until I started SSLP and found myself addicted to getting stronger.

Admittedly, I have not made as much progress as I could have. Work was pretty crazy early on which caused me to miss some workouts. When I would miss a day, I’d just use the weight from the previous workout instead of increasing it. My bench and deadlift have both lagged a bit in comparison to my other lifts. Bench from some initial apprehension on increasing weight without a spotter, and deadlift just from the lack of frequency. It’s also tough only deadlifting after squats and press / bench.

Going forward, I’d like to make both bench and deadlift a priority, but also don’t want to neglect the press as I love it.

Stats:

Height: 6’0"
Bodyweight: ~165 /// 185

Squat: 135 x 5 /// 315 x 5
Deadlift: 185 x 5 /// 335 x 5
Bench: 135 x 5 /// 205 x 5
Press: 95 x 5 /// 145 x 5

Question:

Which template would you guys recommend I run after SSLP? I was thinking about running Powerbuilding I as my goals are centered around both gain strength while putting on some muscle, but part of me feels that I’m still so new to serious training that I can accomplish the same hypertrophy goals from a pure strength program. I’ve put on some good weight, but I’m still skinny.

Thanks guys. Love your page and it’s changed my mindset from exercising to training with specific long term goals in mind.

We would recommend running The Beginner template at this point
