Fun with Over-analysis

Just thought I’d share my recent misadventure with over-analysis. Like many, I occasionally film my lifts from a couple of different angles to check my form. You know…trying to catch problems before they become problems. From the front view of my squat, I noticed that the bar was tilting to the left pretty badly on the descent.

Over the next couple of weeks I tried changing foot angles, played with the bar position, grip, etc. Nothing seemed to help.

Then I told myself ‘Lean to the right a bit.’ Problem solved.

Don’t overthink it!

About 10 years ago, Dr. Baraki and I used to train in my garage in Virginia. He had a little rotation in his squat for some unknown reason. The cue that ended up working? “Pull” the L side “back” during the descent (this was the side that was rotating forward).

Agree. Don’t over-analyze!
