Getting Back Into More Serious BJJ Training But Want To Maintain/Improve Strength

I am on week 8 of the Bridge and have been very happy with the results I am getting from that. But to make the strength training work with my schedule I have only been able to get onto the mats about 1x per week throughout the duration of this training block. As a result, I am considerably shittier than I was before I lowered my BJJ training frequency, which I am ok with because I made the decision to prioritize strength training for that 8 week training block.

However, I now want to get back into more serious BJJ training (training at least 3 days per week) which means that I will likely have to lower my strength training frequency to about 2 days per week to start… at least until I can improve my overall conditioning and maybe start doing 2 a days when I don’t feel too tired from this training strategy (I.e. strength training in the AM and BJJ in the PM). I am also thinking that I will program one day of GPP to help me improve my overall conditioning.

Do you have any recommendations for strength training at a frequency of 2x per week and still get some results? I am not looking for optimal strength training results but would still like to be making improvements in the gym. Should I take a 3 day template and split the volume between my two training days? Would really appreciate your thoughts.

Also wanted to note that I plan to be in a calorie deficit in general as I need to lose weight. I don’t track macros anymore so I am not always good about making sure I am in a deficit but I have been slowly getting results which is nice.

I would do the time crunch template with a 2x/wk frequency if that’s what you can commit. I don’t think I would train BJJ more than RT in the gym for health, weight loss, etc., but if you dig BJJ that’s cool too

Thanks Jordan! Should I be doing the same weekly volume for that training program (i.e. doing more exercises per day than is in the template) or should I just be doing the same workouts noted in that template and doing less weekly volume?

Oh and one more questions… Does the Master Template on the BBM website have the most recently updated version of those programs or does it have the original programs? Trying to decide between buying the the Time Crunch 2.0 or the Master Template Bundle.

Hey, just hoping to get a response on the questions above. Not sure if you didnt want to answer, I wasnt clear, or if you just didnt get around to it. Thanks.
