GPP Hypertrophy program post-mortem and increasing volume for the next program

I just completed the GPP hypertrophy program on the back of doing the Bridge 1.0. I will be doing the bridge 2.0 afterwards.

It was a failure overall, with my e1rms staying constant throughout with no progress and began dropping for the last 1-2 weeks. Other recovery factors are on point.

I am trying to figure out what was the cause of the lack of progress here. My theory is that I did not increase the volume/sets of my main lifts when doing the GPP program, as I was already accustomed to the volume from the bridge 1.0.

Would increasing the volume of the main lifts for bridge 2.0 by say 1-2 sets be a good idea then?

The GPP/Hypertrophy program tends to maintain or maybe generate a modest increase in e1RM strength. But as you may suspect from the name, it is not a program designed to optimize strength performance during the course of the short program. In that light, I would probably not agree with your assessment that it was a “failure”, although we obviously don’t have all the details.

And your response to this program doesn’t necessarily provide us with information as to what modifications (if any) may be necessary to the Bridge 2.0 in your situation. A better tool to understand this is to run a more strength-focused template (i.e., where the specific outcome measures of choice are your e1RMs / 1RMs), and make adjustments based on how you respond to that.
