How can i tell if I have a hip imabalance?

When I was younger I had a lower back injury to my left side, I never full had the issue checked out however fast forward a few years and I started training and I’ve always felt “off”. When I take my squat stance and align my feet i feel like i’m not standing right and as i begin squatting i notice that one of my feet, usually left one, has creeped forward, further more i feel like the squat itself is not “centered”. I.e i tend to dip to one side slightly. Finally, I’ve also developed some sort of shoulder impingement where i feel strain in my left shoulder, typically around the area where the pec and delt sort of meet, i’m not sure that anatomically correct but i digress, whilst doing some pin presses I also noticed that the left side of the barbell always hits the pin first and not just slightly, my training partners also noticed this occurring. Lastly (i promise) I’ve developed some neck and upper trap strain and tightness in addition to noticeable scapula winging and general instability in that region.

I realise that’s a lot of anecdotal possibly unhelpful information there but i feel like the whole left side of my body is out of line and just jacked, even including quadricep tendinitis near the knee and “tightness” in the left calf. I realise alot of this stuff is probably in my head and worsened by my reactions to it but im really hoping you guys may be able to point me in the right direction.

P.s. I’ve recently discovered your guys’ podcast after lurking some strength based channels on youtube, i was very overweight and self conscious as a kid and as a result ive been left with body image issues and training over the last few years for “aesthetics”, however listening to you guys literally all day has “converted” me and i will be looking to start strength training soon and hopefully getting some coaching, thanks alot guys.

This is far too complicated to address in this forum. You should get some in-person coaching.

Thanks for the response Dr Baraki, quite honestly even after posting the question I sort of had to sit back and think to myself like am i really suffering from all these problems? and to be honest I came to to the conclusion that most if not all of these are things that im often overt thinking/ stressing about and reality i feel quite healthy generally. Your podcast on injuries really helped with sort concept of injuries/pain being mostly a response from the brain, with that being said I genuinely I am suffering with a trap/neck imbalance tightness kinda deal and any tips you had with that would be greatly appreciated.

P.s Im currently a student and cant afford coaching but will be starting a grad job soon so its something ill look into, can you suggest any resources where I can find a good coach in the uk, or would coaching with yourself or Jordan be an option. Many thanks and good day.

Glad to help. My advice for your imbalance is addressed in the article I linked above, and you should continue training.
