How much knee bend is "allowed" in RDLs?

In order for me to get the bar to my mid shin during RDLs, I do need to bend my knees a bit. Is that ok or is that defeating the purpose of the RDL?

I think that as long as you keep the tension on the hamstrings it should be fine

I assumed they’re supposed to be done like deadlifts in reverse, which means your knees are unlocked except at the very top.
