Hello Dr. Jordan Feigenbaum and/or Dr. Austin Baraki,
So ever after I switched to High Bar, it seems like the outside of my right hip has become inflamed, along with IT band pain while coming out of the bottom position (IT pain very rarely felt during everyday activities). This is in addition to the nagging hip issue that has been present since Dec 31st that I have been trying out high bar in the first place for. As I said in a previous post, I don’t want to switch back to low-bar without giving high bar a proper go (~2.5 weeks doing HB so far), but right at the moment it seems like it is doing more harm than good. However, I did 2 reps of Low-Bar just to see how it feels after a few weeks off of it at really light weight and it felt soooooo awkward. Changing squat forms seems to really take a toll on my mental state because it requires so much attention looking for ways to improve my mechanics. If I keep doing high bar for a while and then finally decide to switch back, then I will have to go through another stage of getting used to squatting a different style again. However, not switching means risking increasing inflammation and IT band pain.
Additionally, due to all of these issues, I feel really, really tentative in the bottom position while High-Bar squatting, which leads to me being tentative squatting in general. I want to love squatting. I still love doing it, but it is hard to enjoy it when I think I have to get super-perfect form every single rep to manage the issues I’ve been going through.
My program for squat is Heavy, Light (80%), Medium (90%), all 3x5, just for your information.
Thanks so much,
ColoradoMinesCole
