Knee Bursitis (updated with less grammatical errors)

Hey guys,

I am suffering from a knee bursitis from a training accident back in September 2021. While trying to sprawl, (bringing your hip to the ground as fast as possobile while standing), during Wrestling training all my body weight landed on my left knee-cap. The pain was immense but I continued to train on the same day. Afterwards, the pain was still there, however, not as severe and therefore I continued training until the end of October. I noticed that the pain really never went away and would increase if someone kicked my knee, me landing on it or if I pulled my heel to my behind to stretch my thigh. Plus my knee was pretty swollen.

That is when I decided to see a doctor about it and got an MRI. He immediately diagnosed a knee bursitis, explaining that the bursa has inflammed and that it additonally bursted.
He advised me to stop training MMA and to not bump my knee on anything in the future and that it will go away by itself if resting. I stopped training MMA but continued to play soccer which was not smart and therefore it did not properly heal. I went to see the doctor again, got a Cortison injection. This improved the situation significantly, however, a week later, trying to shoot in Wrestling the pain came back. I have now stopped doing sports for more than 6 weeks as this was the next advice I received and guess what. I tried to shoot once again and the pain came back.
I have seen multiple doctors that don’t want me to undergo surgery but rather treat my bursitis conservatively . During the time I stopped training MMA or playing soccer, the pain was gone and I could run, cycle, go to the gym, do whatever I wanted except the stretch I mentioned above and landing/getting hit on it. Once I hit my knee on something hard, the pain was back and stayed for several days
I have also worn bandages but this did not protect me from pain when I tried to shoot in Wrestling. Is there anyone that has had the same problem or can help me with it?
This injury is driving me crazy as it was supposed to last for “a few weeks” and it has now been half a year.
Thank you in advance

I have had an extremely similar scenario just insert elbow instead of the knee. Other than the aforementioned body part the only difference is can see is that I was referred to an orthopedic surgeon who took additional x-rays. She added a fractured elbow to bursitis. It was an extremely old fracture but it is what causes me to keep rupturing the Bursa sack (probably during side falls). In my case, they would have to remove the loose fractured bone which If I understand correctly would involve cutting all of the tendons that attach to the Tricep. This would result in being in a brace/cast for at least six months. I chose the more conservative option that was recommended. I am now wearing what is basically a giant elbow pad 24/7. I have stopped any exercise that involves the Tricep. and quit training BJJ. I am to do this for at least six weeks. Unfortunately, she said that the success rate for the elbow pad is extremely low. I guess what I am saying is I can relate man it sucks. maybe you should try wearing a knee pad for a while? I am interested to hear what you find works or if the good doctors have any suggestions.
