Knee pop during squat, bruising spreading down leg

Hi all,

2 days ago I was doing squats and I was being a bit lazy with allowing my knees to cave in during the last warmup. During the ascent, I felt a pop in my right knee, with slight pain and discomfort following. The pain went away during the squat session and was replace by a cool wet or dripping feeling.

After the session a bruise appeared below my knee cap, next to the inward side of my patella tendon, originating from the top of the tibia. Since then the bruise has slowly been spreading down my knee, it looks like blood pooling beneath the skin. Currently spread 5 cm down the top of my shin.

The top of my tibia is mildly sore to touch, otherwise I have no pain, no swelling, no dysfunction. The day after I was deadlifting regular weights and performed split squats fine, slight tingling in my knee but could be psychosomatic. Slow bodyweight squats with knee valgus doesn’t hurt, feel unstable or produce any sound.

Has anyone got an idea what this may be? A friend suggested I may have tore a blood vessel. My main concern is if I’ve slightly torn a ligament or my meniscus and if regular activity will exacerbate the injury.
I realize this is likely not enough information to make a diagnosis but I appreciate if people can give their insight on whether they’ve seen this sort of thing before, if I should seek professional help, or if I can get away with cautiously monitoring my knee during workouts.
