Just wondering if anybody has thoughts or experience doing LISS via brisk walks wearing a weight vest.
I find LISS on a stationary bike (Airdyne) to be, frankly, boring AF…makes compliance a real chore. I don’t have access to a rower (probably just as boring). Changing scenery would really help, but jogging/running does not agree with my joints, so that’s a nonstarter.
I can’t seem to walk fast enough to get to the necessary RPE…so I wondered about walking while wearing a weight vest.
Good idea? Or should I just sack up and stay on the bike?
Great question. I always find doing LISS on the rower is boring AF and makes my butt fall asleep after about 10 minutes. I don’t have an assault bike at my gym so doing a normal exercise bike would work, but I like to keep my arms moving. I normally use an elliptical on the second level of the gym so I get the legs and arms moving and then listen to audiobooks while I watch people do some dumb shit below me…that never gets old.
Yeah, same thing for me on the Airdyne, plus my hands often fall asleep on the handles too. My Airdyne is in my basement (home gym), so the scenery isn’t interesting (but my pit bull does check in on me frequently as if to say “WTF are you DOING?”). I’ve listened to a lot of podcasts while cycling but it’s getting really old really fast.
LISS with a weight vest or weighted ruck sack is actually very enjoyable. I regularly do 3-5 mile runs or rucks for conditioning and it works wonders. Check this out for information on the rucking variation:
