I’m looking for a second opinion for a friend. He’s 68 and has had several back surgeries and now his surgeon is recommending another. He’s fairly active for his age although he doesn’t resistance train. The more active he is he says it tends to go away. He also has a history of anxiety and depression and these things seem to be linked. I’ve tried explaining to him the biopsychosocial model and he seems to be open to the idea. I’m sure he’d be open to a consultation over another surgery if you guys think he would be a good candidate? I also want to thank Barbell Medicine for all the material you all have put out. It’s been a tremendous help to me and I’m hoping it can help him.
A consultation sounds like exactly what we would recommend for him, yes.
If his symptoms tend to improve with more physical activity, I’d have a really hard time with the idea of surgery in this situation.
Thank you so much for the response. Unfortunately he’s received the MRI results and is scared into thinking he has to have the surgery. Slowly sending him more of you guys material and hoping for the best.
