Med school

Hey Austin and Jordan,

I’m currently a freshman in college and curious about your guys take on med school and doctor stuff; I know I could have probably got some of these answers online but just curious to hear your point of views. When did you know you wanted to be a doctor? Can med school be affordable? What can I do to get into med school? And is a sports medicine physician a realistic goal/job?

Thanks,
Conor

  1. I have home video of myself saying I was going to be a doctor at the age of 3, and my interest grew progressively through my subsequent education.

  2. This depends entirely on what “affordable” means to you.

  3. The absolute requirements: perform well in the necessary prerequisite courses, obtain favorable letters of recommendation, perform well on the MCAT, and interview well. The optional “extras”: perform undergraduate research, obtain some clinical experience (e.g., by volunteering, scribing, etc.).

  4. This is also an odd question, but yes, a career in general (i.e., non-surgical) sports medicine is not a particularly lofty goal once you’ve already gotten into med school.

studentdoctor.net is a good resource for pre medical students and has really good forums, so you might wanna check it out cyclons.
