medial epicondyle tear

Orthopod diagnosed me with grade 2 tear of medial epicondyle after months of pain. Told me I could still squat and deadlift but to avoid all other lifts and shuffled me off to PT. PT gave me a bunch of rubber band exercises to strength muscles in forearm. Are the PT recommendations worth the time or should I just give it 4 to 6 weeks to heal. Thanks.

Are you sure you understood the diagnosis correctly? I’m not familiar with this injury.

He said it was essentially golfers elbow with a torn tendon, if that helps. His electronic medical records mentioned all the medical jargon with diagnosis codes of M77.01 and M25.521.

How was the tear diagnosed? MRI? Physical exam?

Did an X-ray and physical exam

x ray and physical exam

Unless you actually had a medial epicondylar avulsion fracture, some sort of extensor tendon “tear” would be rather difficult to diagnose through X-ray and physical exam alone, unless it was a catastrophic injury. Sorry we can’t be more helpful here.

Thanks for trying. I will see if the PT helps; if not the orthopod wants an MRI done in about 6 weeks.
