Overload Pull on Strength 1

Hey Guys -

I’m starting Strength 1 next week. The program calls for an Overload Pull that is equipment dependent. I don’t have access to chains. Mid-shin rack pulls are a no-go because I can’t set the pins low enough on my gym’s rack to get them below the knee, and there are no plates or any other firm flat surfaces to stand on to elevate me relative to the rack.

That leaves me with bands or something else. I’ve searched around on the forums but haven’t found an answer to this so far.

  1. Bands

The area where I have to deadlift is just a platform. There isn’t a place to anchor the bands. I’ve seen a couple of alternative options online but I don’t know if they are legit or not. One is using heavy DBs to anchor the bands down on each side. The other is standing on top of a single band looped over the barbell. These both seem sketchy at best.

  1. As an alternative, could it work to pull Sumo rather than conventional? I’ve never pulled sumo before, but it seems like it would at least offer a different pulling angle and possibly heavier weights.

I hope this isn’t a repetitive inquiry but trying to make do with my available options.

Chewie,

I would either space the bar up on a plate or two on each side so you’re doing a block pull or do stand on the band deadlifts.

I would not pull sumo in this case.
