Overshot weight before set started - stick to prescribed Reps or prescribed RPE

While working up the weight in the working sets, I overestimated the weight I could for my last set (prescribed as 8 reps @ RPE 8). My intuition was to stop at the rep where I’ve reached the RPE (in this case, 7 reps) rather than finish out the set if it’s going to push me into 9 - 10 RPE territory.

Assuming this is the exception to the rule in my training, can you confirm this is the best approach while I’m learning to recognize and sharpen my RPE estimations? It’s not significant in this example, but if this question has been asked, I’ve missed the answer.

Thanks.

We’d recommend just finishing the set unless you’re reasonably sure you’re likely to fail the rep.
