Parasympathetic nervous system

I feel like a dummy even posing this question but I have been unable to find any substantiating evidence for or against my topic of interest.

TL:smile:R
is there any way to actively target the PSNS utilizing lower “stress” workouts (parasympathetic nervous system)

I’ve really been trying to not get fired recently from my assistant strength coach position at a decent college but some of the things the head strength coach says is causing me to develop RBF and a twitch. Since this is specifically related to PSNS I will shorten their story by saying his latest kick is “starting recovery early by activating the PSNS”. First time I heard it I thought to myself “okay but wouldn’t recovery just be a self activating thing? It would see like a huge pain in the ass to have to “consciously activate PSNS”. So I took to research gate and ole google scholar to find the exact role of PSNS in resistance training and if there is a way to actively activate it. I didn’t know if you all could shed some light on the matter for me.

My stance right now probably is in the same lines as what you all will say and this could be nothing more than a confirmation seeking bias. I believe that the body sort of regulates recovery on its own and that a specific type of workout doesn’t do anything to activate it. Wouldn’t just auto regulation be the answer? If you appropriately program then there wouldn’t really be a need for a sports athlete to switch from say a barbell program, to just band workouts? His choice of “lower stress” workouts is to get rid of all barbell work and go to banded workouts and running.

if there is evidence refuting what I think could you share it so I can educate myself because beyond what I’ve stated my belief is ,that you can’t beyond some sort of auto regulation.

Nope. Any workout is going to increase sympathetic tone by definition. Improving conditioning can improve heart rate recovery, but people speaking about activating their nervous system usually are conflating witchcraft for science.
