Patellar tendinopathy in right knee

Hey Docs. how’s it going, hope you’re all doing well.

3 weeks ago, after squatting 310lbs for reps and combining it with 145lbs leg extensions, I developed patellar tendinopathy in my right knee. Pain isn’t appearing all the time, but its a kind of annoying. When I walk, it doesn’t hurt, neither when I squat with the barbell, but when I do pistol squats or walk upstairs, it hurts and sounds like cracking. I’m 17 years old and programmed rehab program for myself, reduced the load on the leg extensions by 40 lbs and did some tempo work. Pain was gone during leg extensions after this, while the total pain during the activities like walking upstairs reduced a little, but it wasn’t completely gone. Barbell squat remained the same, although I’m planning to add some paused/tempo work.

I wanted to start to run next week, although I’m not sure should I, ‘cause of this.
I already checked some of your samples (e.g. knee-pain template).

What are your opinions about this?

Thanks, Dan.

Sounds like you need to modify your programming more. Running wouldn’t be in my program for you right now with this limited information. I suspect you’d benefit from more significant programming modification including your conditioning. I would not be trying pistol squats at this particular time either, though I agree that you should be able to do them upon completing your recovery.
