Patellar Tendonitis Diagnosis - two options which way to go?

After nearly two years of trying to rehab my patellar tendonitis (self diagnosed, correctly) I went to a local sports medicine ortho. The doctor did some xrays and then an ultrasound on the tendon and showed that i have some pretty severe levels of chronic inflammation and micro tearing (duh). He offered two ways to go to try and rehab.

  1. Topical steroid cream and about a month of shockwave therapy along with some physical therapy.
  2. Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy.

Anyone have experience with either shockwave therapy and/or PRP that can help guide me in which way I should go? Both are going to cost me $1000+ if I do either…

Thanks!

Not medical advice, but I would not personally undergo either of these treatments. I would 10/10 recommend consulting our pain and rehab team to get you on the right track. Way better than either of these treatments and less expensive.

We encourage people to try and manage their injuries as best as they can on their own (if that’s their preference), but I hope no one is surprised that we recommend working with our professional staff if someone hasn’t had much luck on their own.
