Pins and needle sensation during workout

Hello doctors and BBM,

I’ve been training my 62 year old father during the pandemic with mostly cardio through boxing, although I try to incorporate some resistance training with the little equipment I have.
But he’s been concerned about the sensation of “pins and needles” around his body during workout. It seems to be more prevalent in the past year or two.

My father has been diagnosed as “pre-diabetic” in the past and is on 100 mg of Januvia. Current blood glucose readings are about 110-120 mg/dl before a meal.
He is currently on blood pressure medication taking 5mg of Lisinopril and averages about 120/80 now.

I’ve been trying to follow some of the things that BBM has written in the past about noceboing one’s self. But I did some light googling and I’m still not sure. Do you think that this is something that requires direct attention with his doctor and I should slow the workouts down?

Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately this is too vague of a symptom for us to be able to confidently comment on here. Experiencing these symptoms (known as “paresthesia”) in multiple areas throughout his body with no clear pattern/localization, and only in association with exercise, would not be likely related to blood sugar, blood pressure, or his medications. If he is concerned about them, it would be reasonable to consult with a physician for evaluation and/or simple reassurance.

Thank you. I’ll tell him to ask his doctor if it continues to be an issue.
