Power clean

Just got back from a starting strength seminar and while I was there my platform coach told me during the power clean session that I needed to program my power clean because I have alot of power I’m not using. Now the most I’ve ever power cleaned is 185lbs and I’m 250 lbs and can deadlift 560. I’ll get to my question, would programming power cleans help my deadlift like he said or is my deadlift already to heavy for a power clean to make a difference? I usually pause deadlift for supplement anywhere around 385-435 depending on the day. Can this be answered without "we dont know anything about your program " ha ha ha thanks guys!

It is unfortunate that people will parrot things without careful consideration of the statement being parroted.

If someone is making the claim that power cleans will help the deadlift more than training the deadlift itself (outside of a person who is untrained) then burden of proof is on them.

You’ll need to train the power clean to pass the platform at the seminar and if you want to coach the power clean. It can be useful in training the display of force production in a specific manner, though it it no better than other barbell based training options for that purpose.

While it is easier to make up rhetoric and claim it is “logically deduced” there is an increased risk of being completely wrong.

Hey Jordan, I am just starting the long process of becoming a strength coach. I don’t think it would be worth getting a SS cert at this point. I’m hoping BBM will have coaching courses and a certification soon. If this is my course of action, should I still learn the “power clean” and “power snatch”? My coach has never programmed these in for me and that has been perfectly fine by me. If my goal is to help the average sedentary individual get stronger, is it necessary? Would these exercises have to be mastered in your future cert program (like SS)? That is, if you have a future cert program of course. Thanks.
