Power Clean still useful?

Regarding to powerlifting(deadlift), I know you guys prefer barbell row. But I believe recently your opinion about training changed a bit. Even we get to see Jordan bodybuilding.

My goal of training is not the number of the 3 lifts. Then would still power clean have benefits? Honestly I miss power clean a bit. Last time was when I was doing Starting Strength and 5/3/1 which is almost 4 years ago. I felt good when I did it. I was good at my favorite sports(soccer). But my deadlift went up when I substitute it to pendlay row. So I kept doing pendlay row for 4 years.

Now I wonder, lately, how your opinion change or still the same about power clean. Is it useful or if we’re not a olympian, it is useless?

I do not think the power clean is beneficial for maximal strength or hypertrophy. It can be used for power development, though there are plenty of other exercises that would do the same thing. If you want to do the power clean, that’s cool, but I don’t think it’s a good use of training time for most. I don’t think the row is really comparable either, but doing heavy rows are likely better for strength and hypertrophy than power cleans.

Thanks for the answer! I thought its movement has its unique benefits or something. I’ll keep doing barbell row.
