Although I’m a lifelong fitness nut, I started thinking about getting stronger a few months ago. I read The Barbell Prescription and I’ve started Starting Strength. So, I know that they both say that it is impossible to get the shoulder impingement syndrome from pressing. Still, it sounded like everything they said would be things that my physical therapist already knows and he recommends everybody avoid benching and pressing, especially after 40 years of age. Do you happen to have any links to material that would be convincing to him?
We are currently in the process of writing some material on this topic as we speak. Keep your eyes peeled - should be out in the near future.
It turns out there is precious little evidence to support traditional mechanical ideas (including those described by SS et al) about “shoulder impingement”.

Thanks, Austin. I look forward to the article. Is this link below where I should look for it when it comes out?
