Programming Selection After Extended Break

A few months back I helped my brother run through the SSLP. He made great progress, gained weight, ran the program well, and rarely missed a session. Towards the end of the run he started missing sessions, eventually stopped showing up, and has been basically sedentary for about 3 or 4 months. We might have tried to run it out too long and the psychological stress/fatigue scared him away. In any case, he’s talking about getting back on the wagon, and I’m not sure what to do with him. Should we do a backed off mini SSLP and get him back to about where he was before? Or start him on the bridge or the 12-week strength template? Is he back in novice land after months of being detrained?

Yes, I would do a novice progression with him again, but perhaps this time adjust the approach towards the end so he’s not forcing all-out grinds every session, and transitions to intermediate-style training sooner rather than later.
