Hi BBM crew,
Since this quarentine I wanted to focus on improving my pull up and chin up numbers. I can currently do about 3 maybe 4 pull ups and
Around 4 chin ups. My goal is to get a strong 1rm. I weigh 80kg and am 5 feet 8. Any help would be appreciated.
I’m really struggling to get these up.
Also i am kinda struggling
This question needs more context - specifically, what your programming looks like.
If you can do 3 pull ups or 4 chin ups in one set, we would have you accumulate more training volume (i.e., more total reps) per session using sub maximal sets. Even if that means you’re doing multiple “sets” of 1 rep.
I am assuming due to quarantine original poster doesn’t have access to a lat pull down.
I carry around an extra 40 pounds of fat and I don’t have strong lats so I have never been good at pull ups. I basically used the strategy Austin spelled out (accumulate volume at less than RPE 10 in order to improve) though I accumulated the majority of my volume on lat pull downs simply because accumulating volume (e.g. 30 reps) at 2 reps a set is a bit of time suck. Imagine trying to accumulate all your bench volume at your 3 rep max. It would be hard as all sets would have to be 1’s and 2’s to keep it submaximal. In a situation like that, if you found an alternative like weighted pushups that was similar but allowed you to accumulate volume easier, you would have to consider it. For me that alternative was lat-pulldowns. Unfortunately you might not have that alternative available.
