Recurring adductor tear (??) during squats

M, 29, 185cm (6’1), 105KG (~230lbs)

This is the third time in two years that I hurt my adductor on my left thigh during squats. Yesterday I was doing light squats (weekly HLM) and I felt a small pop on my adductor at the bottom of the squat (no pain). My current HLM weights are H: 147.5KG (~325lbs), L: 118KG (~260lbs), M: 132.5KG (~295lbs).

I have had this minor injury twice before (summer 2017, summer 2018) during squats. After that I would continue squatting with weight that is tolerable pain wise. Two days after the injury squatting with empty bar would be too painful and four days after injury I would squat with 60KG (~135LBS). Weight above that was also too painful. Then I would slowly add weight on each workout and it takes about a month to reach my previous (pre injury) working sets.

I also had this injury several times when I used to play football (soccer) a few years ago. I currently do not play.

Any suggestions to reduce the risk of this injury happening again?

Kschwarz,

Thanks for the post and I hope you’re doing well otherwise. It sounds like the programming you’re on currently is to blame, as there is aren’t much in the way of fatigue management controls in that program. I also do not recommend HLM to be setup in that manner so, I would advise a programming change if possible.
