Resistance bands vs pulley

Hello I have a home gym and have a squat rack, dumbbells and barbell.

I am doing Bb1 and then will purchase and do bb2

i do not have a pulley system. Do you recommend to get this to be able to do bb2 or is there enough variety with Barbell and dunbbell that I don’t need it?

is the bb and db work more effective and I should avoid pulley?

example would be lat pull-down, lat low row, tricep push down and extension on the pulley

So if you do recommend it, then would it be just as effective to do the above exercises esp tricep push downs with resistance bands instead of pulley, or pulley is better?

main goal is hypertrophy and increasing muscle size

AC,

I think the spud econo pulley (https://www.roguefitness.com/spud-inc-super-econo-pulley-systems) is worth the purchase for some isolation work. Bands don’t even come close IMO, but I don’t think free weights are more effective at machines for hypertrophy in all cases. Having access to both would be cool

Thank you I appreciate your help. Is there a pulley system or functional trainer you recommend like rep FT3000, not in terms of advertisement but just something you’ve had good experience with? I’ve heard the spud econo the weight is a little unsteady when we do the movements

however if it is more than sufficient, I’ll buy it and give it a shot since it’s much cheaper and takes less space than a dedicated pulley machine

I’ve used the spud one for a long time without any real complaints. A dedicated machine would be nice if you have the space and the $$, but I have never used the FT3000 personally.

Thank you

i am debating whether to get a lat pull down machine (or spud pulley), or get a functional trainer which basically has 2 independent pulleys. I think you can do lat pulldowns on the Ft also, just there’s no leg lock when seated on the bench.

is It beneficial to have a functional trainer for the BB 2 routine? Does it call for isolated work that can only be done on a FT (such as cable chest flys)? Can lat pulldowns be done just as effectively on a FT vs a dedicated lat pull down machine, or with lack of leg lock on the bench the dedicated lat pull-down is better?

debating whether to get a FT or go with spud pulley (or a lat pull down machine )

I don’t have any experience with a functional trainer, so I can’t comment on its use in practice. There are many options in the template to work around various equipment situations. There are no “functional trainer only” movements in any of our templates.

For what it’s worth I’ll add a vote for the spud pulley system. ( I also picked up a similar cheaper pulley system on amazon, and now have four pulleys on my rack.). Pulleys give you access to a wide range of movements: leg extensions, leg curls, pull downs, lateral raises, curls, rows, triceps extensions, flys…I think they’re a great option.
