Rib Injury During Deadlifts

Yesterday, I was doing a few reasonably light pause deadlifts (beltless) for 10 reps at a weight I could possibly get an extra 2 or 3 reps out of, when I felt a small pop in my lower right rib area followed by a slightly painful sensation very similar to having a stitch. I was stupid enough to continue the set and finished off one more set straight after which obviously increased the pain.

Today it is still a bit tender whenever I take a deep breath, bend over to tie my shoe or just touching it. I can still train other movements just nothing which involves pulling off the floor and bracing my stomach.

I was curious as to what it might be, how long It might take to heal and what could have caused it so I can prevent it from happening again?

What I understand is that isit very hard to precise what happened, even with proper exams. If it’s not very red or swollen, probably the best thing it’s to see if you are able to pull lighter weights without aggravating it. If not, see if you can do rack pulls this way, and try to carefully bring the weights back to where you currently were

Thanks for the replies guys. It is feeling better today. Just going to take it easy for a couple weeks and see how I go.

@Matthew_Horsfall I had the same injury 3 days ago…any update what it was and what to do?
