Rib Fracture healing

Hi Guys,
I had posted about 4 weeks ago in the pain and rehab section regarding fractured ribs.
“While biking to work I fell and fractured 4 ribs on my right side, the anterolateral 4th 5th 6th and 7th ribs specifically.” the advice was to not train through it but just rest.

Just went back to the Dr since its been 4 weeks. The Dr told me to continue to lay off lifting anything heavy until about 10 weeks have elapsed (initially they said 4-6 weeks) but I can begin biking again.

I still have some pain, mostly when I am sleeping and I put weight on that side or when I push off to get out of bed however I am able to do push ups and do nearly anything without any pain now after I am warmed up.
The Dr said that ithe pain is likely muscle tear from the fracture then sent me on my merry way.

Would it be appropriate to begin training again? I was on week 6 or 7 of the bridge when it happened and was very disapointed that I didnt finish.

Thanks,
Rob

Unfortunately we can’t give you specific recommendations as to when you should start training, especially if those recommendations would conflict with those of another healthcare professional who has seen and evaluated you.

With that said, I am skeptical of their explanations of a “muscle tear” being the persistent issue that would otherwise prevent you from being able to train productively at this time. If it were me, I’d probably get back to work, with conservative loading to start with.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate all your help! Did some training and was able to work up to some decent weight without any pain on my squat (still very conservative). Just felt some irritating tightness in my chest during bench press when I put it in an arch so I kept it low with higher reps. Deadlift had no issues as well. Today just experiencing a bunch of DOMS today which is what I expected anyway.

Thanks again.
