RPE Judgement with Tempo Squats

Hey coaches, First off I want to say I LOVE The Bridge. I wish to become a coach and help people in the future so I have started developing an eye for technique and programming and I just wanted to tell you guys I am super impressed with this program. I am still laughing about the “maintain your weight more or less while you continue to train like someone is going to kill you if you don’t make gainzZz” advice on my last post. The only thing I wanted to ask today is about the tempo squats. I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on how RPE works and haven’t had any trouble so far except with judging RPE on tempo squats.

Is there a typical range one can expect to take off the bar for a set of 8 @ RPE 7 or 8?
I know my E1RM for squats is about 340 and when I worked up on my tempo squats last Friday I stopped at about 195lbs and anything past 6 reps I felt like my low back was working hard. I am just trying to make sure this doesn’t seem like I completely undershot, I know I was tired that day from working the previous night but these felt soooooo hard while all my other lifts that day felt great.

Thanks again

No, there really isn’t a typical range that we can use to predict anything useful here.

Just think of it in terms of how many more reps you could have done with good form. @8 = 2 more reps. @7 = 3 more reps. And remember that it’s better to under-shoot than to over-shoot.

Sounds good, thanks Austin.
