Running Mileage and Resistance Training Volume

I’m currently training to run a faster mile in conjunction with progressive resistance training on the compound lifts. I’ve heard of runners putting in upwards of 30+ miles a week, and I have time to run daily if that would be appropriate for the goal of gaining strength and muscle mass while getting faster in the mile. I understand that these two goals somewhat contradict each other in terms of the stimulus that training for them provides, but I’d like to know what everyone thinks a good balance point is. Obviously there should be some sort of progressive overload in terms of my training for running, so would it be good to set a cap for my mileage increases? I also understand that these are likely highly individual questions so they may be hard to answer without knowing a deal of training history, etc.
Thanks!

I don’t think I’d set a cap for total mileage or total RT volume, but the amount is going to depend on other programming factors, e.g. avg intensity, rep/interval schemes, previous training, etc. and your response.

What are you doing for conditioning right now?

Currently I’m running 3x a week with a longer run and two tempo/interval runs. I’ve heard recommendations that suggest to up easy running volume in the interest in building an “aerobic base” to run faster over distances like a mile, but it doesn’t make much sense from a specificity standpoint.

I do think that building an aerobic base is important, but I don’t know that I’d favor just increasing the duration of the long run and not aerobic intervals or tempo runs.
