Self management of common colds

Okay so obviously you guys don’t know my specific case and there would be a lot more information needed to make confident specific recommendations. With that said, I get sick (common cold-ish) about 4-5 times per year and I wanted to know whether I can do anything to make them go away faster. My current approach is to just get through training using normal autoregulation. These episodes of sickness rarely affect my training (neither strength nor conditioning), although I find my high intensity endurance (felt in wrestling practice) severely lacking. I wanted to know if any of the common household remedies for sickness actually show any efficacy or if there are just any strategies I should be utilizing, besides continuing to train. Thanks in advance

There are various things that can be used to manage symptoms, but very little that can impact duration of illness, unfortunately. There is some mixed evidence around the use of zinc, with some studies showing a modest shortening of cold duration by about a day on average, although intranasal zinc (e.g., Zicam) can cause permanent loss of the ability to smell, so is not recommended.
