Several pain/discomfort issues.

Hi docs,

30 y/o male, student and a part-time waiter. I have been training for 4 years and currently on strength lll template.

Issue no.1:
Pain occurs on my left front delt and chest area that is close to the front delt while benching heavy(1 @7) above, it has been happening for 2 months. The pain is bearable so I pushed through it in every training session. However I would really like to get rid of it as it doesn’t feel right at all.

Issue no.2:
This happened about 3 weeks ago. After working for an hour at the restaurant, terrible sharp pain occurs on my right trapezius(middle part) whenever I move my hand forward like cleaning/grabbing the dishes or shrugging my shoulder. However I do not feel any discomfort or pain while training at the gym.

Can you please tell me what can I do to fix the above issues.

Thank you for your time and much appreciated.

Nick

Hey Nick,
Sorry to hear about your shoulder. Our typical first line of recommendation in instances such as issue 1 is to decrease the load and work through a tolerable range while slowly increasing both weight and range back. It sounds like your symptoms are relatively mild at this point since you can train through them but I don’t want them to start limiting your training. If you want to learn more about the overall approach I cannot recommend the linked piece highly enough.

I would be disinclined to directly call what you are experiencing biceps tendinopathy, but the overall heuristic holds.

Regarding issue 2, I would also expect this to start resolving if you put to practice what Jason lines out in his piece.
