I’ve recently restarted training after covid-induced-barbell-access-drought. I started SSLP to get back on track. Except i started experincing mild pain in the right shoulder (hard to localise, it felt like it was in the anterior delt, not AC joint itself, but i might be wrong) during the first half of upward movement. I though it was because i started progressing to fast, so i reduced increments to 2.5lb between workouts and continued to bench through the pain. Last Tuesday i benched 207.5lbx5, moderate pain as usual. On Friday i pressed 137.5x5, no pain. On Saturday i woke up with shoulder pain and reduced mobility. Sharp pain during shoulder abduction or flexion. On Sunday i skipped upper body work. Today is Tuesday and the pain keeps getting worse. I’ve started taking ibuprofen to sleep. At which point should i consider going to a hospital. I understand that without MRI you can’t give any solid advice, but i also don’t have few thousand dollard at the moment to through away if its something that can resolve on its on. Just in general, can delayng the hospital visit in my condition cause serious complication?
Hey @bwaargh - sorry to hear about your shoulder symptoms. Have you checked out the article, Pain in training: What do?, for general advice on these situations? I am new to forum, not sure where to put this question for your input. I am 56, and I still compete 2-3 times a year. That being said, I went to my ortho to get my mri read regarding my shoulder. I seems my bicep tendon is going to pop at any time with some other problems he can just debris it and clean it. He basically told me, I have 2 options. 1. get it reattached with a 16 week recovery OR 2. Don’ t reattach the tendon and let it migrate down. with 2 week recovery. Considering my age and the fact I don’t want to lose any/very little strength. I don’t care about the aesthetics. Can you you share your experiences and advice. TIA
