Sinus Related Issues?

Hey docs, I would love your input, and experience on possible causes of sinus related issues. I have been having problems with chronic headaches, and excess of mucus production. The mucus is clear, white, thick, frothy, and slow moving. This normally begins after I’ve eaten, and last for a few hours. There’s a constant need to clear my throat. This often leads to headaches in my frontal sinuses, and worsens as I bend over. As you can imagine, this is affecting the quality of my training especially deadlifts, and squats. I have been to the ENT, he performed a laryngoscopy**,**and everything looked normal. He did not do a CT scan, and wanted me to come in when the symptoms were quite severe.

I should mention I had a concussion back in August of 2014 ( I was kicked in the neck and knocked out ) though this doesn’t feel like the same type of headache. I also got 3 severe sinus infections in 2019.

I have been searching and have come across a condition called Catarrh, though I believe this is based out of the U.K… I don’t want to WebMD my self into a diagnosis, but this has been chronic for a few years now.

Have any of you experienced any cases like this before, or have any advice on what it could be?

Thanks so much for your input.

Hi Lut,

We can certainly make suggestions for symptomatic control here, but I think if there is going to be an identifiable / directly treatable cause here, it would likely require evaluation by an allergist. Do you have access to this specialty where you are?

Hi, Dr. Baraki, thanks for the response. Yes there are specialist in my area I can go see for an evaluation. Can you recommend something to treat the symptoms in the meantime?

The first-line therapy for this would involve any variety of intranasal corticosteroid (e.g., fluticasone / mometasone). If severe symptoms are persistent, you can add an antihistamine nasal spray (e.g., azelastine / olopatadine) or an oral antihistamine (e.g., cetirizine / loratadine)
