Sleep position effects on recovery?

I was thinking random thoughts while trying to fall asleep and came up with a question for the doctors at BBM.

Assumptions:

  1. Adequate blood flow to an area of the body is required for the recovery and repair process during sleep
  2. Sleeping on a preferred side on a very firm mattress (futon) may reduce blood flow in the area of contact

My question is, can always sleeping on my preferred side (left) impact the recovery process after lifting for the musculature on that side?

MooreJL57,

Thanks for the post!

  1. Adequate blood flow is required for all organs and tissues to stay alive at all times. Period. Full stop.
  2. Not unless you have massive areas of tissue necrosis when you wake up.

My question is, can always sleeping on my preferred side (left) impact the recovery process after lifting for the musculature on that side?

Nope.

Thanks Jordan! Thankfully, I haven’t observed any massive areas of tissue necrosis LOL
