Some questions on the shoulder rehab template

Hi Doc, hope you’re doing great, as always much respect for everything you do.
I am currently the new BB template and I’m liking the 3-day block quite a lot. I tend to do DB lateral raises (just as extra work cause my shoulders don’t look that great visually) as I’ve done on some previous blocks on prior templates like the older BB template. I was never able to get past 2.5 kgs even after giving it proper time and progressive overload. The 5 kg DB makes my shoulders hurt, especially my right shoulder after a few reps. I was wondering if I should get the shoulder rehab template and if you think it could solve the issue. I don’t experience too much shoulder discomfort in other lifts except for upright rows and lateral raises at a significant weight which is still generally pretty light. Machine lateral raises are a no-go cause no matter how many adjustments I make, I end up feeling the traps working more.

Kind regards,
Kirill

Do you have a video of you doing lateral raises with 2.5kg weights?

Hi Dr. Jordan, sorry for getting back to you so late . Here’s a video from yesterday’s session. After doing lateral raises with 2 kg and 2.5 kg dumbbells for 30 reps, I went on to do 4 sets of 15 reps with the 5 kg dumbells with little to no discomfort. I guess maybe not warming up enough was the issue, though I hope the grinding clicking popping goes away eventually(I experience it outside of training as well).

Kind regards,
Kirill

Kirill,

Yea, I wouldn’t do the shoulder rehab template in this case. I would do a heavier weight where you get to failure in the 10-15 rep range. These look FAR too light, but maybe the 5kg sets were closer to failure. I would recommend a bit more elbow bend than you have here and also try and raise your arms more directly out to the side than in front of you.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you for your advice Dr. Feigenbaum, I have the greatest respect for you and your work, also the impact it has had on the strength community.

Kind regards,
Kirill
