Dear Doctors and Forum Members,
I’m a pretty big guy. I’m 6’4", 237lbs, and a 40.75" waist (I’m working on bringing it down). Been through NLP and almost done with Bridge 1.0. Seen great results.
Here’s my problem. When I grip the bar for a squat (I squat low bar) in the position that seems right to me, my hands hit the uprights and J-hooks on my squat rack (I have the Titan T-3). I’m wondering if my grip is too wide. When I tried it narrower, it resulted in either being unable to get the bar below the spine of the scapula or I started getting elbow pain in my right elbow. If I wrap my thumbs around the bar, My wrists wind up being bent as far as they will go and it’s very uncomfortable.
I’ve read what Austin suggested about getting the bar weight onto my back and not using my hands. That helps some to get the strain out of the narrower grip. But I don’t seem to get the ratio he wants of 130 lbs on the back and 5 in the hands.
Do you have any thoughts or suggestions for me?
Jonathan
