Squat knee cave = legitimate technique?

Its 2020, most people realize that back rounding on a deadlift for some people is a legitimate technique, but what about knee cave in on squats?

My own example - I am a posterior chain dominant squatter, bending over with a wide(ish) stance and keeping my shins vertical(ish) is a lot stronger than standing relatively more upright / using a more moderate stance.

I feel like wide stance and some knee cave in gives me best of both worlds

  • Short ROM of wide stance
  • Quad utility out of the hole that i would get with a more moderate stance

If it helps at all, a video of my last top set on squats

This isn’t really a lot of knee cave here at all so I wouldn’t really worry about it, nor do I think you’re uniquely a posterior chain dominant squatter- you’ll use the same amount of quads either way.

I do think your wider stance may be limiting your rebound/bounce out of the bottom and I don’t think that you should necessarily accept this technique as your preferred squat method given where you are in your development. I’d also not walk forward out of the rack.

That said, none of this really matters until you compete and even then…

Thanks for the insight Jordan, i will have those things in mind. (Been playing with my squat technique a lot lately, this stance as of now feels the strongest)

Also stupid forward walk is for the recording from the front hahaha necessary evil sometimes…
