Squatting and deadlifting with leg pain

Hi docs,
For the last 4 days I’ve had unexplained pain just above my right angle, on the outside of my leg. It’s not constant, and there’s no pain while walking, but there is when turning my foot to the left, laying my foot on my left knee to put on my socks, when lying on my left side and raising my right leg, etc. It started to hurt while I was driving to work on Thursday, so I have no idea what caused it, if it was even one thing in particular.

Saturday morning I tried to deadlift and there was a good bit of pain even at 135 lb. I tested out RDLs to see if that was painful, and it was so I didn’t know what to do and just didn’t deadlift. I was also supposed to do squats for myoreps, but even squatting without the bar was painful. What would be your recommendations for a) treatment (if any) and b) training around it? Today I’m supposed to do comp squat.

Thanks.

Hi Keith,

This is pretty difficult to advise on remotely, without knowing anything about you and with this vague history of unexplained pain out of nowhere. Many of these sorts of things tend to go away on their own, but we can’t really begin to hypothesize what happened. We therefore can’t really advise much on treatment. If it’s too painful to load for regular training, you could still continue training the upper body lifts, of course, until it either improves or you get it evaluated (or consult with our BBM rehab guys).

Sorry we can’t be of more help here!

Thanks Austin. Sorry for the vagueness, did the best I could. It’s a little disappointing because I was just starting to improve my poverty squat again, but it is what it is I guess. Hopefully it will resolve itself soon.
