Assuming that a person can squat equally well with flat shoes vs raised heels would there be any benefit to train each as a separate variation? I usually use heels but one day I forgot my lifting shoes and thought it felt like a good change of pace to squat in flats. I have since taken to using flats on my pause squat day. It’s probably 6 to a half dozen but now it’s out there.
I don’t think the difference is significant enough to make them useful as distinct “variations”.
If you can 1) squat consistently, 2) maintain good balance, and 3) hit depth, whether or not you wear heeled shoes is not particularly important.
