SSB Squat is much stronger than my regular back squat. What do?

Basically what the title says. I keep hearing that SSB squat is harder than regular comp squat, however mine is much stronger than my regular squat.

Does this indicate that I should squat with a certain style or is something just funny about me? Does it mean nothing? Am I squatting wrong?

Currently doing the 3 day low fatigue template.

Hi Gary,

How much is “much stronger”? I am not sure I would say it is inherently a much harder exercise, just different.I think my SSB and comp squat are pretty similar (comp being a little stronger probably because I train it more often).

I would perhaps film a few sets and see if you are doing anything drastically different between the two exercises. For example are you squatting deeper doing your normal comp squat or something like that?
How hard do you find keeping the bar in position during your normal comp squat? maybe the SSB is a lot more secure for you so you get put in more effort?

I don’t think this sounds like anything I would worry too much about

Strong is strong, man. For what its worth, my HBS is roughly the same as my SSB. I prefer both to low bar.
End of the day, there’s really not that much in it. Its just another way to squat.

If there is a huge difference video yourself you may not be hitting depth. The SSB is going to put you in a position between front squats and a back squat. For most people it means less weight lifted. I wouldn’t say categorically that is everyone but for most. Chances are you are not hitting depth on the SSB because your mechanics change a bit when the weight is a bit more up front. At least for me squat is the hardest for me to judge if I got depth. With heavier weights I find after looking at tape I was coming up higher than I thought. That little less depth can allow you to lift more.

Now if you aren’t going to compete and aren’t doing half squats I wouldn’t stress too much if your squat is a little high. Still I suspect with the difference in back angle you may not be going as deep into the hole and don’t realize it.
