Stinging pain in the upper and middle back area

edit: Apparently this was moved because it was posted in the wrong subforum, so please let me adress you properly:

Dear Derek, Dear Michael,

first of all thank you for the opportunity to seek your medical advice on this forum. Although I am new to the forum I have been following the BM crowd for some time now and actually decided to register after Michael Ray’s kind invitation to share our medical questions. So here we go:

What and where: “Stabbing”/”Stinging” pain (like minor electro shocks, tingling) and discomfort in the upper and middle back. Sometimes it flares up near my scapula, sometimes closer to the spine. The pain is very “local” and “specific” and comes and goes very quickly. I would say there is no clear connection between movements and affected area. The pain is not strong enough to keep me from training the area, it just feels somewhat irritating.

Since when: It started flaring up some months ago but only very sporadically whenever I was carrying my son around. He was always on the heavy side (97th percentile, now he is six months and weighs 10 kg). A month ago we moved to a new apartment and it got worse during packing boxes, dismounting furniture, etc. Since then it got worse and now it usually affects me all day.

Triggers: When I hold my son for a longer period of time, during cooking, household activities or whenever I have to use my arms in front of me (carrying bags is not an issue). It’s almost never a problem when I relax (couch, sleeping).

What seems to help: Activity or “self-massage” (upper back/neck area) seems to suppress it for some time.

Some words about me: 33 years, 93 kg at 1.90 m, several years of regular training, desk job.

Maybe you have any idea what this might be. I never had any issues of pain in the middle back and although I usually have no issue working with/around pain this stinging discomfort is new to me so I feel a little lost here.

Thank you so much for your feedback and your time.

Cheers
Daniel
